PRESPERSE’S KRISTINA KANNHEISER AND DAPHNE BENDERLY, PHD DISCUSS MULTI-FUNCTIONAL SPF BOOSTING AT NYSCC EVENT

The New York SCC hosted an event, Extending your Invisible Umbrella, on September 12th 2018 that focused on sun protection claims and skin health. Presperse Technical Service Specialist Kristina Kannheiser and Technology Manager Daphne Benderly, PhD were two of several to present at this event.

The Presperse presentation focused on multifunctional benefits of our SPF boosting technologies and also “instant” soft focus properties associated with these same powders.

SPF Boosting technologies were chosen based on particle size, morphology, chemistry and do not yield an SPF above 2. Powders were added into either an organic or inorganic sunscreen emulsion (O/W) via in-process or post addition at 1% and 3%. Presperse powder technologies were tested against a control and a competitive benchmark and measurements were taken In-Vitro using a LabSphere.

The soft focus effect was quantified using reduction in line count, mean length and mean thickness of the wrinkles. The results showed that versus a control, three of the four powders tested had an immediate soft focus effect. The fourth powder is currently under testing (Barium Sulfate).
