ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY: SDG13 Climate Action
As part of Sumitomo Corporation Group, Presperse Corporation recognizes that the environmental issues are global in scale and that they are long-range concerns affecting future generations. We recognize immense importance in preserving the environment, biodiversity, water resources, prevention of pollution, use of renewable energy and contribution to the reduction of carbon footprint (SDG 13 – Climate Action).
Presperse Corporation is committed to compliance with environmental legislation. We are committed to move towards naturalness, traceability and transparency of products offered to the customers to save the Planet. To promote the importance of biodiversity, since 2021 Presperse has been a holder of RSPO distributor license. This license is approved for RSPO members participating in the RSPO certified palm oil supply chain. We are committed to having our palm oil containing products 100% RSPO certified by the end of 2025. We have also engaged in the Sustainable Palm Index (SPI) initiative. This tool is an evaluation scorecard for members of Action for Sustainable Derivatives (ASD). It is designed to assess supplier’s progress and commitment in sustainable sourcing practices related to palm oil and compliance with No Deforestation, No Peak, No Exploitation (NDPE) principles.
Furthermore, Presperse is also dedicated to natural raw ingredient transparency by participating in Traceability Alliance for Sustainable Cosmetics (TRASCE). TRASCE consortium was formed to address traceability in the complex cosmetic industry’s supply chain. Gaining deeper knowledge of cosmetics’ supply chain allows us to assess its impact on biodiversity and to improve environmental and social sustainability.
To implement our commitment to protecting the environment, Presperse partners with suppliers who offer ingredients obtained using environmentally friendly, sustainable technologies including fermentation-based processes, edible or non-edible waste feedstock or advances in green chemistry.
Fermentation-based processes generally consume less water in comparison to traditional chemical synthesis. The use of this technology is also associated with low carbon footprint, resulting in carbon neutral ingredients that show advantages over their fossil-based conventional competitors. By using this technology, we not only help to reduce the use of water but also contribute to protecting natural resources and to significantly reducing product carbon footprint (PCF).
To help with emergency preparedness and response to customer health and safety related to Presperse ingredients, our product labels include the emergency contact line for both US and International customers. The product safety labels are aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and labeling Chemicals (GHS). In addition, all our ingredients are shipped with Safety Date Sheets (SDS). As a trusted partner to our customers, our Let’s Make Beauty (LMB) by Presperse on-line catalog provides the highest regulatory expertise, and all regulatory information, including hazards, safety data sheets and regulatory claims is available on our site. Our customers can contact our team of scientists and experts in regulatory and quality fields via email, directly from the catalog website.
To demonstrate our commitment to the sustainable, traceable, deforestation-free, and climate-friendly supply chain, in 2024, Presperse obtained The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC Plus). This leading certification helps us contribute to SDG13 by setting standards to facilitate the use of waste, residues and utilize recycled or biological waste derived materials. ISCC covers all sustainable feedstocks and is a no-deforestation standard with a strong commitment to protect forests, high-carbon stock lands and biodiversity. Our ISCC Plus certified products are bio-circular, with a mass balance chain of custody option and mass determination.
Presperse is dedicated to promoting the prevention of pollution caused by chemical and office waste. We are committed to reducing the impact on the environment through the waste reduction and recycling to achieve a sustainable society.
To prevent generation of waste, Presperse introduced a class-leading supply chain planning software that allows for inventory control and improved forecasting. We have also developed policies for better waste management. Product disposal is done in cooperation with highly sustainable waste management solution companies, which have been helping industries and communities to manage, recycle and protect resources in the face of environmental challenges.
Introduction of these processes and resources helped to reduce the non-regulated chemical waste from approximately thirty-two tons in 2023 to six tons 2024 to date, and hazardous waste from six tons to 200 kg. Total waste emissions in 2023, calculated based on the assumption of landfill disposal are ~ 22 MTCO2e.
Since recycling is an important part of sustainability that can benefit the environment, Presperse has engaged with TerraCycle in reprocessing laboratory hard and soft plastic and Stericycle in recycling office paper. TerraCycle proved that recycling is a better option in comparison to landfill and incineration. Through collaboration and innovation, TerraCycle developed the world’s first solutions in everything from recycling to reuse. Stericycle is a United States based company with over 30 years of experience with document and medical waste destruction. Their solutions not only allow for paper recycling but also focus on document confidentiality and security to ensure that the confidential information remains confidential.
The Paris Agreement – legally binding international treaty on climate change was adopted by 196 countries in 2015 which agreed to “increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels” and pursue efforts “to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels”. Presperse, together with Sumitomo Corporation Group, is committed to achieve carbon neutrality goal aligned with the Agreement.
Presperse showed commitment to reducing Green House Gases (GHG) emissions by participating in Climate Ambition Accelerator in 2023 and Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition (LOCT) in 2023 and 2024.
Climate Ambition Accelerator is a UN GC initiative to develop and promote Science Based Targets and its net-zero standards. It helps companies gain understanding of GHG emissions, build their own GHG management strategy and position companies to be Forward Faster initiative by setting science-based targets. Supplier LOCT is a growing collaborative of companies helping suppliers become part of the climate solutions. Presperse’s participation in these initiatives resulted in the development of GHG management strategies and calculation of reduction targets. We partnered with a software solution provider for carbon footprint determination – Workiva Carbon and focused our efforts on calculating Scope 1 and 2. The values obtained in 2022 were 0 and 40 MTCO2e*, respectively.
As Presperse continued the climate challenge journey, collaborating with suppliers, service providers and transportation companies, we calculated Scope 3 for 2023. Even though emissions for certain categories of Scope 3 are calculated based on secondary data and some are based on estimates, we are happy to continue this commitment and improve our data and reporting practices. Our GHG emissions for 2023 were approximately 0, 47 and 12600 MTCO2e*, for Scope 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Total purchased electricity use in 2023 was 115.72 MWh. The detailed results are included in Presperse’s CDP carbon footprint data submission and internal submissions within LoCT members initiative.

Our proposed reduction targets, established during LoCT program and based on SBTi tools and guidance, for Scope 2 are 80% renewable electricity procurement by 2025 and 100% by 2030 and maintenance thereafter, or 42% total reduction by 2030 (6% annual reduction) in absolute contraction approach. Scope 3 absolute emissions targets are 42% and 25%, for 1.5°C and 2°C, respectively by target year 2030. Progress will be measured by annual reporting via submission to CDP, however these data and target claims have not yet been validated by third parties.
To support action on climate and compensate GHG emissions for business travel in 2022 and 2023, Presperse purchased carbon credits – VCS981 – to stop deforestation within private parcels at the edge of the deforestation frontier in Brazil, Pacajai REDD+ Forest Protection (2013), Verified Carbon Standard, Project Partner – Anew., enabled by Sustain.Life, and VCS1477 – Kitingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation Project, Verra Registry, by Cloverly.
In addition, to demonstrate our dedication to using renewable energy, we acquired Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from NC-RETS (North Carolina Renewable Energy Tracking System), certificate number NCREC-REC-3056-SC-11-2023- 151861-1 to 246.
